Overview:
Thomsen Homes is one of the largest single-family home builders in the state, locally owned and operating in the Fargo and Grand Forks Metro areas. We are currently seeking a Senior Estimator to join our team in Fargo, ND. A high-quality candidate for this position will possess 10+ years of experience in wood frame construction, 3+ years of experience in Estimating, experience with construction estimating software, excellent Microsoft Office skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
Key Accountabilities:
- Project Estimating
- Partner with Purchasing to ensure budget file quantity accuracy
- Quality Accept count data when giving peer review feedback for CPRs, takeoffs, plan standards, etc.
- Identify means, methods, and sequencing required for creating accurate count estimates for all construction counts.
- Generate accurate and organized unit-based take-offs of all materials, labor, vendor counts, and other counts necessary to complete each project
- Generate accurate takeoff a/o count estimates for Designers during Client meetings
- Assist Purchasing by utilizing detailed counts reports to help outline scopes of work, units, and other information needed for Purchasing to complete issuance of Purchase Orders and/or Subcontracts for each project
- Help Design, Drafting, and Sales value engineer new plans or options
- Estimating System Management
- Maintain estimating database with plan quantities, measures, and standard takeoff quantities
- Ensure counts files are current and accurate (in concert with Purchasing)
- Participate in yearly bid solicitation and budgeting process (in concert with Purchasing)
- Other
- Utilize data exports and update reporting requirements as assigned
- Identify and share process improvements with BI Analyst
- Provide honest and open feedback
Qualifications:
- Education and/or Experience:
- 10+ years of wood frame construction experience
- 3+ years of Estimating experience
- Residential Drafting experience a plus!
- Comprehensive understanding of residential construction means, methods, and sequencing
- Experience with construction Estimating software platforms/systems
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
- Knowledge of residential construction Estimating best practices
- Experience in custom pricing of construction projects
- Desire to work with a growing company

- Miscellaneous Job Duties
- The Preconstruction Team is responsible for delivering high-quality projects on time or early by ensuring data integrity, implementing change to better the process, and helping others as required for the business to be successful
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Preconstruction
Hours:
- 8:00am – 5:00pm
- Monday – Friday
- 40 hours (+/- depending on season)
