Position Purpose/Summary:
Thomsen Homes is one of the largest single-family home builders in the state, locally owned and operating in the Fargo and Grand Forks Metro areas. We are currently seeking a Project Estimator/Purchasing Agent to join our team in Fargo, ND. A high-quality candidate for this position will possess 5 years of experience in the construction industry, 3 years of experience in Purchasing, experience with purchasing software, excellent Microsoft Office skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Project Purchasing
- Issue subcontracts and purchase orders to vendors using quantities and scopes of work provided by Estimating and/or Operations
- Issue modifications/change orders to subcontracts and purchase orders, using information provided by Estimating and/or Operations
- Provide document management for all vendor purchasing documents and modifications
- Collaborate cross-departmentally on purchasing activities impacting other internal teams
- Manage system for confirming receipt of purchased products and services
- Purchasing System Management
- Ensure vendor pricing/cost files are current and accurate and understood by Estimating
- Maintain and monitor company’s resource management system for vendor capacities
- Vendor Management
- Lead annual bid solicitation and budgeting process (with support from Estimating) and issuance/management of annual vendor agreements
- Lead negotiations with vendors for pricing and terms
- Ensure all vendor qualifications (insurance, licensing, etc.) are recorded, updated, and maintained
- Review and approve/negotiate vendor billing for compliance with purchasing agreements (purchase orders, subcontracts, and modifications)
- Locate and procure new Vendors as business conditions change and as needed due to vendor resource capacity constraints

- Create data exports and update reports as assigned

Qualifications and Skills:
- 5+ years of experience in the construction industry
- 3+ years of experience in Purchasing
- Experience with Purchasing software setup and maintenance
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong negotiation skills
- Thorough understanding of buying, contracting, insurance, and strategies for minimizing risk
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of Purchasing best practices
- Experience in value engineering practices to maximize value through achieving designated standards while minimizing costs
- Experience in collaborating with other teams for new product discovery, material sourcing, and pricing
- Ability to consistently meet goals and deadlines
- Driven by deadlines and task completion

Hours:
- 8:00am – 5:00pm
- Monday – Friday
- 40 hours (+/- depending on season)
